Candidates for the Board of Trustees:

Kirsten Curry Whitcomb: Kirsten and her husband have lived in the neighborhood for eight years. She graduated from Gonzaga University and Seattle University School of Law, is president of Rains Plan Group, a retirement plan division, with expertise in tax and ERISA laws. She is currently training to run her first half marathon after participating in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and other running events.

Emily Dexter: Emily, who lives in the same house where she was raised, was elected to the LCC Board in 2007. Emily, who has a financial background, is the lead for LCC on parks and open space issues, but has consistently pitched in to help with other projects and issues in the community.

Cary Lassen: Cary, appointed to the Board in August 2008, moved to Laurelhurst in 1987 with her husband. She was active in the PTA and on the board at Laurelhurst School. Cary is LCC’s Crime Prevention Co-Chair and recently organized a “School Block Watch.” She graduated from WSU and illustrates Children’s educational materials.

Colleen McAleer: Colleen, a 23-year resident of Laurelhurst, was elected to the Board in 2007. She is the lead for the Board on SR 520 issues attending many meetings with public officials and others to develop a workable plan for SR 520 replacement. Colleen works principally on land use and transportation issues and served on the S.U.N. Pocket Park Steering Committee.

Len Nelson: Len and his family have lived in the neighborhood for 35 years. He retired last April from a technical and management career with a large aerospace electronics company. Using seed money from a patent award, Len initiated a scholarship program that has provided college tuition assistance. With retirement, he is now pursuing his woodworking hobby and volunteer opportunities.

Stan Sorscher: Stan, his wife and their two children moved to Laurelhurst in 1990. He was elected to the Board in 2001. Since that time, Stan has served on many committees working on a variety of issues and currently serves as LCC’s secretary.

Adrian Whorton: Adrian and his wife have lived in the neighborhood for four years. Both of his children will attend Laurelhurst Elementary next year. Adrian attended Western Washington University and Medical School at the University of Washington. He is currently an attending physician in the Emergency Department at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland and medical director of Redmond Medic One.

Leslie Wright: Leslie, who has lived in the neighborhood for over two decades, was appointed to the Board to fill a vacancy in early 2007. She was elected to the Board at the annual neighbors meeting that year. Leslie is a graphic designer and editor of Laurelhurst News. She has been active on parks and land use issues.
