NEST (Northeast Seattle Together) which supports Northeast Seattle elder neighbors through a network of volunteers and vendors, is having a 8 week class series called "Spiritual Development, Psychological Development, and Buddhist Insight Meditation" starting tomorrow from 2-4pm at the NEST office 5751 33rd Ave NE
The information says:
What is the nature of spiritual development? What is the nature of psychological development? How are they related?
This class will examine those questions, with special emphasis on the Eastern psychology/philosophy of Buddhism and the Western psychologies/philosophies of psychoanalysis, existentialism, and constructivism. You will learn a style Buddhist Insight meditation that is now widely practiced in the West. Lurking in the background of everything else we talk about will be the fundamental question at the heart of both psychology and philosophy: What is the ultimate purpose of life?
Joseph Pearl, Ph.D. in Psychology and Education from the University of Michigan, was on the faculty of Oklahoma State University before taking early retirement to follow his wife, Nancy, to Seattle, where he has taught courses in Educational Psychology, Human Development, and Transpersonal Psychology, covering topics such as altered states of consciousness and spiritual development. He has practiced Buddhist Insight (Vipassana) Meditation since 1983.
The cost is $50 for non-NEST members and $30 for NEST members. Register by calling 206.525.6378.
