Laurelhurst Home Once Leased By Russell Wilson Up For Sale

A Blog reader sent us this article recently published in the Puget Sound Business Journal:

4939 NE Laurelcrest Ln, Seattle, WA 98105

Alvord's Laurelhurst mansion once leased by Russell Wilson listed for $10.4M

A Laurelhurst manse at 4939 N.E. Laurelcrest Lane just hit the market for $10.4 million. The home is owned by Rick and Nancy Alvord, who are part of one of the area’s most philanthropic families, in education, arts and health.

The Seattle estate, which was on the market a couple of years ago, was at that time in demand by a half dozen folks who wanted to lease it. Ultimately it was Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson who wound up leasing it for almost two years.

The Seattle estate, which was on the market a couple of years ago, was at that time in demand by a half dozen folks who wanted to lease it. Ultimately it was Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson who wound up leasing it for almost two years.

Word is that Macklemore was one of those who had tried to lease it too, but Wilson had the last word.

Last month, Wilson bought a crib of his own– a $6.7 million mansion in the Meydenbauer Bay area of Bellevue on Shoreland Drive.

The Alvord home, handled by Windermere Broker Barbara Shikiar, is spectacular, with 180 feet of low bank Lake Washington waterfront, swimming pool, indoor hot tub and spa, a very open floor plan and knockout views of the lake and Mt. Rainier.

Rick Alvord says the deed to the home dates back to 1933 when it was first built. Since that time it was leveled and built as it is now. Not long after they bought it, the Alvords remodeled it substantially and, as part of that, added an alluring heated pool, two docks, indoor spa complete with hot tub and more.

Though they have moved from the home, downsizing to a smaller place in Windermere, they have fond and vivid memories of wonderful times: a 16-foot tall Christmas tree annually in the living area right off the kitchen; a party every Christmas for about 250 people; a TV room right next to the kitchen where that sat watching the fireplace and the lake.

“It’s a great spot,” says Rick. “(Former Gov.) Dan Evans came over and wanted to look at my study once with its dark walnut. He took one look and said it should be Don Corleone’s office rather than mine."

Corleone refers to the original don in “The Godfather,” played by actor Marlon Brando.
Both say the home is a getaway, a place to relax.

“You’re pretty unproductive because you just daydream looking at the view,” says Rick.

Take a look at the John Wilbanks photos in the slide show to see the Alvord's home where Wilson lived in this blend of formal and causal ambience, a private place with vaulted ceilings and open floor plan, six bedrooms, six bathrooms, wine cellar, wet bar, solarium/atrium, sauna, hot tub/spa, swimming pool and dramatic views.

I once delivered youth soccer papers to Rick Alvord at his house over a decade ago, and it was not that house. That house was in Windermere. This must be the house he grew up in.

There is a reason that family is big in philanthropy, they are the nicest people you will ever get to know.
