Don't Miss LCC's Annual Neighbors Meeting On Monday


The Laurelhurst Community Club (LCC) is holding its Annual Neighbors Meeting on Monday from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. at the Laurelhurst Community Center

Take this opportunity to ask about SDOT's plans for pedestrian safety, fixing potholes, and dangerous spots such as Suicide Hill.  Learn about Seattle’s priorities to improve pedestrian, bicycle and road safety and address the infrastructure backlog.  Is Seattle ready for a $900M property tax levy to get Seattle moving?  Do you have specific questions about safety issues?  Opportunity to ask questions during last 15 minutes.

News from Yesler Swamp
Connie Sidles will provide an update on the boardwalk and bird blind.  She will also brief neighbors about efforts to create shorebird habitat at Union Bay Natural Area.   She will also be on hand to answer questions about our efforts to create shorebird habitat at Union Bay Natural Area. Friends of Yesler Swamp will staff an informational table as well, where you can sign up to help spread the word about the Swamp, or join a work party to pull invasive plants. Connie is planning on bringing some bird specimens from the Burke Museum to show us some of the typical birds of the Swamp, up close and personal.

Update on Proposed Redevelopment of the 18-Acre Battelle/Talaris Site
Learn about  current thinking on residential development for this 18-acre historically designated site. Colleen McAleer and Brian McMullen will update neighbors about what is going on with the Talaris property.  Talaris representatives were unavailable.

Information on Scott Kubly, Director of Seattle Department of Transportation: 
Mayor Ed Murray appointed Scott Kubly as SDOT director in July 2014. Before joining SDOT, Scott served as Deputy Director of the Chicago Department of Transportation and, before that, as the Associate Director for the District Department of Transportation in Washington, DC.  
Scott led the development of a new streetcar system and major expansion of bike share in Washington, DC. In Chicago, he led the development of a new bus rapid transit system, construction of 65 miles of protected bike lanes and the launch of a new bike share system. In these roles, Scott also managed agency operations, resource management, finance and development of major capital projects, as well as traffic management and signal operations.   
Scott grew up in Chicago and holds graduate degrees in business administration and community/regional planning. He recently moved to the Central District and is enjoying getting to know the city's unique neighborhoods by foot, with his two dogs in tow.
He looks forward to working with the community on the transportation challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of our growing city.
