Neighborhood Children Performing In PNB's Nutcracker

Several neighborhood children are performing in the 30th anniversary of Pacific Northwest Ballet’s (PNB)Nutcracker performance.

The dancers, Mimi Heffernan,Catherine Herber and Bailey Poort attend PNB School, and are all in third grade at different neighborhood schools. They are all in the A cast of the Nutcracker, which means they are always in the same shows.

Bailey, age 8, is the Girl Baby Mouse and attends Laurelhurst Elementary School. Her mother told us that she has taken dance classes since she was two and a half and started in the ballet/tap classes at All-That-Dance.

"We chose PNB once she decided she wanted to continue doing ballet as it's the best dance training around. When she saw the Nutcracker last year she said 'I want to be in that next year!'  She is thankful to have the opportunity to be in such an amazing production!" her mother added.

Mimi is the Little Girl in the party scene and attend Assumption St. Bridgett.  She also began dancing at All-That-Dance when she was two and a half,  and has loved ballet ever since, her mother told us.

"Mimi couldn't wait to begin training at PNB, and was thrilled to be cast in the Nutcracker. She loves everything about the production: the music, the costumes, the sets, and especially spending time with the other dancers. Watching choreographer Kent Stowell work with the dancers at rehearsals has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience that she'll never forget!" her mother told us.

Catherine attends Villa and is the Baby Mouse-boy.

All three girls take ballet classes twice per week for one hour and fifteen minutes. This year they are in the Ballet I class at PNB, which is the first year of the official school and last year they were all in Pre-ballet.
