Seattle Public Schools Seeking Input On General Music and Language Arts Materials

Seattle Public Schools is looking for input from the community all this week in two areas, K-5 General Music Materials and Language Arts Materials.

They are circulating this information to the community to give input all this week on these two areas. Here is information provided by SPS:

K-5 General Music Materials Adoption Information

Seattle Public Schools is undertaking an adoption of instructional materials for Elementary General Music. This adoption, along with the aligned SPS curriculum, will provide consistency in instruction at our elementary schools, targeted support for teachers and schools, and allow us to better focus our professional development offerings.

For the past two months, the K-5 General Music Materials Adoption team and public have reviewed submitted materials and resources. The material choices have been narrowed and you are invited to review the top recommended materials from May 2-7.

Stakeholder feedback is essential to the process and will be used to determine the final adoption recommendations. Review locations, extended hours and additional information is posted on the SPS curriculum alignment website.

If you have questions regarding the K-5 General Music Adoption, please contact Carri Campbell at cjcampbell@seattleschools.org or (206) 252-0188.

Language Arts Materials Adoption Information

The Language Arts Adoption Committee has been working tirelessly to review the instructional materials that are under consideration for adoption.

Click here for an overview of the materials and how each supports our Balanced Literacy goal, “To ensure that all pre-Kindergarten through 12th-grade students become proficient and critical readers and writers, motivated to read and write throughout their lives.”

The goal is to have these materials in middle school Language Arts classrooms for the new school year.

As part of the adoption process,  SPS staff and the community is invited to view the materials and provide input.

Here is a flyer inviting the community to view the materials from Monday, May 2 through Saturday, May 7. The community is encouraged to take time to come and see what exciting materials they are hoping to provide for  students as SPS supports them in reading and writing.
