Laurelhurst Ranked as One of Safest Neighborhoods in America's Top Cities for 2010

One of our readers sent us an interesting link to an article on WalletPop, that rates Laurelhurst as one of the safest neighborhoods in a major city in the U.S.

The research was done using exclusive neighborhood crime data developed by NeighborhoodScout.com, and based on FBI data from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies. One neighborhood was selected from each large city in the U.S.

The website says that "Some city neighborhoods are actually safer than most neighborhoods in America regardless of whether they are urban or rural. The safest big city neighborhoods discovered tend to be of two types; highly affluent city neighborhoods, on one hand, but also more modest income neighborhoods with many tightly-knit working class families."

Here are the statistics NeighborhoodScout gives on Laurelhurst:

City: SEATTLE, WASH.

Safest Neighborhood: Laurelhurst

Found within ZIP Code(s): 98105, 98115

Safer Than What % of All U.S. Neighborhoods: 60%

Rank Among 7,685 Big City Neighborhoods: 1,155

Crime rate (per 1,000): 18.13

My chances of becoming a victim here (in one year): 1 in 55
