Northeast Seattle Little League Juniors Softball Team Wins State Championship

John Joynt, from the Northeast Seattle Little League, sent us email last night with some great news!

The Juniors Softball team won the Washington State Championship last night! Congratulations!

Above is a picture of the Junior State Champions.

Here is his email:

"Laurelhurst Blog Staff,

Our Juniors Softball team won the Washington State Championship earlier this evening. The Juniors team - a combination of players from Northeast and RUG - had to fight through the losers bracket after losing to the host team, Columbia, 5-2 in the 2nd round. They defeated Stilly Valley 12-2 last night to advance to the title game(s) and a rematch vs. Columbia.

Since Columbia was undefeated in the tournament, the Northeast/RUG Juniors needed to beat them twice in order to be declared the Champions. Which they did this evening - in convincing style. Great pitching with just enough runs propelled Northeast/RUG to a 2-0 victory, but not without some tension. In the bottom of the 7th (final) inning, Columbia had the tying run at second.

But the girls took care of business to preserve the win! However, there was little time to celebrate, as there was only an hour break before the second and decisive game. Northeast/RUG came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning and staked a 4-0 lead. The team added two more runs in the bottom of the 6th and went on to win 6-0. The ride does not end here for the girls, as they will represent Washington in the upcoming Regional Tournament in Tuscon August 4-11."
