Special Father's Day Trail Walk at Yesler Swamp As Well as Interesting Displays

Come out this Sunday, June 20, for a special Father’s Day Walk at Yesler Swamp.  You'll get a chance to see the swamp up close, learn about local wildlife on the guided walk on the wood chip covered trail and also get to meet Swampy the Bear (pictured above).

"Friends of Yesler Swamp are presenting this free Father’s Day program to introduce local residents, kids (3 years and up) and adults alike, to the natural wonders of this unique piece of nature in the heart of Seattle.

You’ll walk among 70-foot high poplars (with luck, eagles will be overhead), see swampy water and find out about the wild critters who inhabit this magical place," the website says.

The swamp bordered by NE 41st St. and Surber Drive is maintained by a group of volunteers who recently installed by hand almost a quarter of a mile of trail in the past two and a half months. .

Three tours, al led by Patrick Mulligan, UW plant education coordinator and education supervisor at the Arboretum, will be offered at 10, 11 and noon and last about 30 minutes.

The tours begin at the east parking lot of the Center for Urban Horticulture, 3501 NE 41st, Seattle.

Also at the event will be a display by the Seattle Audubon society of stuffed birds that children can look at up close as well as touch, including a barn owl, flicker, robin, house finch and others.

The Seattle Wilderness School, as well asthe UW Botanic Gardens will also have some items on display.
