Crime Alert! Eyewitness Report of People Checking Unlocked Doors

A reader sent us email about her eyewitness account of 2 guys trying unlocked doors night before last.

She and another reader also reported finding several items on 52nd Avenue NE.

Please contact us at laurelhurstblogger@gmail.com if these could be your items and we will put you in touch who has them.

Here is what the first reader sent us:

Just FYI, Hi Everyone:

Last night my dog started barking at about 2:30 AM. I looked out the window and watched 2 guys (17-25 in baseball caps and baggy clothes) leave our house and cross the street. They headed down 51st street toward the Villa, checking car doors, going into open garages, and checking house doors. By the time the police showed up, they had come back down the street and headed up 45th to the next block. It's a good reminder to keep our houses, cars, and garage doors locked at night.

I just found 2 sets of car keys (Honda and Viper), empty men's wallet, CDs, receipts, baseball hat 2 houses away on my walk. They were found close to a house on 52nd.  You could post that too if anyone is missing those items.

And the 2nd email we received from another reader reporting something similar:

There was apparently several robberies last night, and some abandoned goods found on our street: I heard that one of the neighbors was woken by a barking dog at 2:30am and saw a couple of teenaged males walking up the street...

*2 sets of car keys (with remotes)
*one red baseball hat
*Several CD's of Funk music
*An empty leather wallet with an REI number sticker on the inside.

As we reported in a previous post - here is what a neighborhood police officer said about these young people who could be stealing personal items:

.... the folks doing the occupied burglaries as he called it, which he said happen usually between 10am and 3pm, are from the surrounding communities, supposedly juveniles, who may be selling the stuff on Craig's list not pawn shops. He said they are generally caucasians, and live in nearby neighborhoods.
