LCC Crime Prevention Report and Tips

Laurelhurst Community Club Crime Prevention sent us the crime status report bulletin they published in their last newsletter, to also post in the blog, as unfortunately car and home break-ins continue, especially in the View Ridge neighborhood.

Here is a recent post we did on the home break-ins.

And neighbors continue to email us about their cars being broken into, such as this one.

Here is their report:

LCC Crime Prevention reports that the Seattle Police Department has asked all the community crime representatives to notify their neighborhoods about the home occupied burglaries.

Laurelhurst has had two of these burglaries in March.  Laurelhurst also has had two vehicles stolen, one in February and another in March.  And the neighborhood has averaged about 10 car prowls a month since the beginning of this year

SPD has arrested one juvenile suspect in the burglaries that have occurred when residents have been at home. However, SPD believes there are more individuals, possibly working as a group, moving around North Seattle neighborhoods. They are going house to house finding unlocked doors or windows and entering while residents are sleeping. Most of the items stolen are laptops and electronics. If they have the opportunity, they take car keys and steal the resident's vehicle.

SPD wants to stop these burglaries before they become a trend. These individuals may be targeting neighborhoods they find easy to burglarize.

Besides locking our doors, SPD has asked citizens to watch for suspicious activity. If you are awake during the late night or early morning, glance out a window and check the streets.

Call 911 if you see any vehicle or individual that is unusual or suspicious.

Do not leave anything valuable in your car including sunglasses, jackets, CDs, electronics or their chargers. Prowlers have smashed windows just to steal a phone charger. It is inconvenient, but SPD recommends you empty your vehicle. The best way to discourage prowlers is to make sure they have an unprofitable night.
