Crime Stats Report and Crime Prevention Tips

Cary Pillo, Crime Prevention Representative, with the Laurelhurst Community Club sent us an update on crime incidents from January to mid-Marach. The following are incidents reported to LCC Crime Prevention. Their website has very helpful information.

Laurelhurst Community Club Crime Prevention Update

Beginning in January LCC Crime Prevention had one reported incident of vandalism (an egg was thrown through a window), 5 car prowls, 2 stolen vehicles and 2 residential burglaries. The burglaries occurred late night or early morning while the residents were sleeping. View Ridge has had 3 similar burglaries. All of these have shown no sign of forced entry - apparently the burglars have entered through unlocked doors.

The two stolen vehicles and the two burglaries were confirmed by SPD.

Please remember to keep your doors and windows locked. If an unwanted solicitor or stranger comes to your door, don't open the door. Let them know you are home by saying "NO THANKS!" through the closed door. If they become verbally abusive, call 911.

Don't "hide" a key by your door. Burglars know where to look. At a precinct meeting it was reported that someone had noticed her pots on the porch had been moved.

Seattle Police has asked neighbors who work early hours or who are awake during the night to keep an eye out for suspicious or unusual activity and to call 911 immediately.

SPD North Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinators have a helpful webpage with some interesting facts about burglaries (the average burglary only takes 5 minutes).

Thanks Cary for this report.
