Sustainable NE Seattle Mtg Thursday

BJ from Sustainable NE Seattle sent our staffers email asking us to let the community know about their upcoming meeting on Thursday at the Wedgwood Presbyterian Church, 8008 35th Ave NE, in the Fireside Room from 6:30-9pm. The group meets the 3rd Thursday of every month.

They will be talking about the Energy Downscaling Action Plan (a local plan for planning and preparing for less energy use); and highlight some examples of similar plans from around the world.

BJ sent us this info on the background of the group - "Sustainable NE Seattle is a community of citizens dedicated to building a sustainable, resilient future for our locality, which includes Seattle neighborhoods that are north of the ship canal, east of I-5, and north to about 145th St. NE... and have been around about two years.

We are a multi-neighborhood organization, working together on various action projects in such areas as local commerce, growing local food, alternative transportation systems and neighborhood mapping, tree and habitat preservation, green building and energy efficiency...trying to effect positive change for our locality, creating a world that works for all.We welcome participation.

Our logo, a tree with many branches, expresses our desire to maintain our 'sense of place' and to grow 'organically' and sustainably as the need and opportunity arises. We support and hope to collaborate with existing community councils, eco-villages, organized groups, and businesses in our area that are also committed to building a sustainable, resilient future.

We are also a part of SCALLOPS: "Sustainable Communities All Over Puget Sound."
