Wallingford Senior Center Fundraiser Tomorrow Night

We've been asked to get the word out about our neighbors in Wallingford at the Senior Center and the precarious situation they are in with the doors already closed due to lack of funding, but trying again to re-open. With the University District Senior Center closed, the closest one is Wallingford. And with that closed, the next closest is Greenwood for our seniors.

The Wallingford Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Wallingford Community Councils for a fundraising event that will hopefully help bring in enough money to pay off debts owed by the Wallingford Senior Center to allow it to again re-open.

"If we all can help do this, there is a possibility that several bigger donors might provide enough to keep our Wallingford Senior Center running in 2010 and beyond. There is also a proposal to the Seattle City Council to consider some financial assistance - don't hesitate to contact them yourselves.

Our Wallingford Community Senior Center, one of only several Senior Centers in Seattle, is facing closure after 30 years of service. It had most recently taken on a number of clients from the University District Senior Center when it closed. After serving over 1500 community members currently, it will leave only two senior centers in all of North Seattle if allowed to close.

Please join your fellow community members, businesses and organizations in supporting this best of all causes. We will all be elderly some day soon, and senior services are essential to a civil society. The city and county have provided a certain amount of assistance to Seattle's senior centers but this hasn't been enough; all of them seek membership dues and more," says the Chamber website.

Here is the invitation:
