We Eat - Kids Read!

That is the tagline for Dish Up Literacy Day this Thursday.

When you eat out at one of the participating restaurants, only on Thursday, a portion of your bill goes directly to providing books and reading programs for children in need in Seattle area neighborhoods.

"Dish Up Literacy is a delicious community event that brings neighborhoods together to give kids in need the chance to read," their website says.

This event is put on by Page Ahead, a non-profit organization that works to increase and develop literacy programs for children.

They are "the leading provider of children’s books and literacy programs in Washington State, reaching more than 55,000 children in need every year" their website says.

"Did you know that 61% of low-income families have no books at all in their homes for their children? Page Ahead serves children, families and communities with new books for children, literacy support for families, and reading resources for communities."

The closest partcipating restaurants to Laurelhurst are in Wegwood and Wallingford as well as a few other neighborhoods. Check out all the restaurants participating here.

Bon Appetit!
