Neighbor Shares Nearby Location To Dispose of Batteries

A neighbor recently sent in information about a nearby place she discovered to dispose of batteries.

She wrote:

Hello neighbors. We would like to share a quick tip.  We recently discovered that our local Office Depot on 25th Avenue NE near the University Village accepts and properly disposes of depleted household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9 Volt) for free.  We’ve been accumulating household batteries for a long while as we have been aware that disposal of batteries in the trash is not allowed.

King County doesn't allow throwing batteries in the trash and their official recommendation page only lists dropoff sites that are miles away. Neighbors will likely find this is the most convenient and environmentally friendly means of disposing of household batteries.

Another neighbor wrote:

Would just like to point out that Seattle residents  are covered by the Seattle Public Utilities garbage service and according to the Seattle Public Utilities website, household alkaline batteries (AAA, AA, C, D, 9V) may be placed in the garbage.

The site also points out that they can be disposed of at hazardous waste facilities or transfer stations.  And of course it’s a great idea also to take them to Office Depot.
