UW Botanic Gardens’ Center for Urban Horticulture (3501 NE 41st Street) is having a class called "Great Soil From The Ground Up" tomorrow from 9-11am. The cost is $15.
The class information says:
Gardeners know that good soil is key to a beautiful, productive landscape, but to most of us it’s a mystery. King County soil scientist, Kate Kurtz, will unlock the secrets of great soil in this interactive presentation about how to build garden soil. In a fun, approachable way.
She will go over how soil is formed, basic soil physics and chemistry, and what we can do as gardeners to make soil work for your plants. Come prepared to get your hands a bit dirty and bring a sample of your own garden soil (about 5 cups worth) to test and work with during the class.
Did you know: King Conservation District will test your soil for free? Get your soil analyzed before the class, and instructor Kate Kurtz will go over your results and help strategize and lay out options for fertilization and soil management. Don't have time to send it out before the class? Bring a sample to the class and Kate can deliver them to KCD for analysis.
